Belgrade, 11 November 2016 – The recently appointed Chief Prosecutor of the newly created Specialist Prosecutor’s Office, Mr David Schwendiman, visited Belgrade, where he met with senior representatives of the Serbian government, judicial authorities and the international community.
These include the Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Nebojša Stefanović, Minister of Justice Nela Kuburović, and Minister of Defense Zoran Djordjevic. Mr Schwendiman also met with representatives of the Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office and with members of the diplomatic community in Belgrade.
The Specialist Prosecutor thanked his interlocutors for their continued support for his investigative efforts, and reconfirmed their commitment to seeing this process through. He did not discuss any details related to the substance of the investigation.
Mr Schwendiman underlined his independence, and stressed that he will be guided in the discharge of his mandate only by the facts and the law and will do his work without fear or favour. He committed to lead a process that is legitimate and perceived as legitimate by all those affected by the work of the prosecutor’s office.
