Specialist Prosecutor Kimberly West and Deputy Specialist Prosecutor Ward Ferdinandusse are visiting Kosovo. In the course of their visit, the Specialist Prosecutor and Deputy Specialist Prosecutor are meeting, among others, with the heads of international organisations and representatives of EU member states.
Ms West, a former US prosecutor with experience in both high-level political investigations and international criminal investigations, succeeded Jack Smith as Specialist Prosecutor in October 2023.
Mr Ferdinandusse, a former Dutch prosecutor, headed the Dutch prosecution of the 2014 shooting-down of Malaysian Airliner MH-17 over Ukraine by Russian and Ukrainian separatists.
Ms West is the third Specialist Prosecutor, following Mr Smith, who served as Specialist Prosecutor between 2018 and 2022, and David Schwendiman, who served between 2016 and 2018.
