The Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC) regrets that a scheduled Press Conference for journalists in Pristina with KSC President Ekaterina Trendafilova had to be cancelled today in the interest of public safety and based on the advice of the Kosovo Police.
Given the fact that the trials take place outside Kosovo, the KSC and the KSC President constantly aim to inform the public in Kosovo about the legal proceedings in The Hague, to give updates and to provide objective and transparent information. This was the purpose of President Trendafilova’s visit to Kosovo this week and it is the purpose of meetings with Kosovo journalists like the one scheduled today, where media can ask any question and receive an answer from the court.
It was not possible to hold the event today due to protests by war veterans and others involving smoke bombs, which were carried out in order to prevent the meeting from taking place. Recognising the democratic right to peaceful protest, the KSC finds it unfortunate that the situation today prevented journalists from asking their questions directly to the President of the court.
The KSC remains committed to informing the Kosovo public and journalists transparently about the course of the court proceedings in The Hague and will continue to do so.
