In regard of some media publications of yesterday concerning Judge Vladimir Mikula, I deem it necessary to make the following statement:
Judge Mikula is one of the 20 Judges appointed to the Roster of International Judges of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC). The Judges are not involved in any judicial functions unless specifically assigned by the President of the KSC. They do not have access to any confidential information regarding the KSC and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) operations. Judges are not involved in any security operations. Even when assigned, Judges are only informed thereof if strictly necessary for the exercise of their judicial functions. Since his appointment, Judge Mikula has not been assigned to any case and thus does not have access to any confidential information regarding activities of the KSC or SPO.
I reiterate the mandate of the KSC to provide secure, independent and impartial proceedings. The KSC remains deeply committed to this mandate and operates accordingly. The protection of witnesses remains a pivotal matter for the KSC and SPO.
