Thaçi et al. trial adjourned for the week/resumption after summer recess

Following the completion of the testimony of witness Bislim Zyrapi, the trial in the case of Thaçi, Veseli, Selimi and Krasniqi adjourned for today and for the week. The trial will resume after the summer recess on 19 August 2024.

Januzi et al. case: filings re. Defence funding issue made public

In relation to our previous announcement in February, please be informed that certain Registry submissions regarding the Defence funding issue are now available in our Public Court Records. Initially classified as confidential, the public redacted versions of these documents are now accessible and provide information about the correspondence between the KSC Registry and the Kosovo Ministry of Justice, as well as with the Defence teams, regarding the mentioned issue.

Thaçi et al. trial: 12th day of witness Zyrapi’s testimony

The testimony of the Prosecution witness Bislim Zyrapi continued this morning. After being examined by the Panel yesterday, the witness is currently undergoing further cross-examination by the Krasniqi Defence.

KSC Weekly Press Briefing on 18 July

Another KSC weekly press briefing will take place on Thursday, 18 July, at 14:30. During this briefing, the KSC Spokespersons will provide a short update on the latest developments in the judicial proceedings before the KSC, as well as on other public activities of the Court. Journalists will have the opportunity to ask questions. Pre-registration is required to attend each briefing. To pre-register, please send an email with name and affiliation to [email protected]. Deadline for pre-registration is every Thursday at 12:00. The Zoom details will be shared following pre-registration. Recordings of the update provided during the Weekly Press Briefings will be made available on the KSC YouTube Channel.

Supreme Court Panel assigned to deal with Haxhi Shala’s request re. detention

On 16 July 2024, President Trendafilova assigned a Supreme Court Panel to decide on the request for protection of legality, filed by the Defence of Haxhi Shala on 12 July, in relation to his detention. Judges Ekaterina Trendafilova (presiding), Christine van den Wyngaert and Daniel Fransen will decide on this request. Here is the assignment decision.

P. Shala case: trial judgment pronounced

Today, 16 July 2024, Trial Panel I pronounced its Judgment in the case of The Specialist Prosecutor v. Pjetër Shala. This Judgment represents the second judgment rendered by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in a war crimes case.

The Trial Panel found Mr. Shala guilty of the war crimes of arbitrary detention, torture and murder and sentenced him to a prison sentence of 18 years. For legal reasons, the Panel acquitted Mr. Shala for the crime of cruel treatment. The Panel found Mr. Shala to be criminally responsible for the crimes through his individual contributions as a participant in a joint criminal enterprise, together with other KLA members.
