KSC Weekly Press Briefing on 17 August

Another KSC weekly press briefing will take place on Thursday, 17 August, at 14:30. During this briefing, the KSC Spokespersons will provide a short update on the latest developments in the judicial proceedings before the KSC, as well as on other public activities of the Court. Journalists will have the opportunity to ask questions. Pre-registration is required to attend each briefing. To pre-register, please send an email with name and affiliation to [email protected]. Deadline for pre-registration is every Thursday at 12:00. The Zoom details will be shared following pre-registration. Recordings of the update provided during the Weekly Press Briefings will be made available on the KSC YouTube Channel.

Dritan Goxhaj arrested in Albania pursuant to arrest warrant of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers

On 31 July 2023, the authorities of Albania arrested Mr Dritan Goxhaj in Tirana. The KSC requested the cooperation and assistance of Albanian authorities in arresting Mr Goxhaj and surrendering him to the KSC, pursuant to an arrest warrant issued by a KSC Judge in relation to offences against the administration of justice involving intimidation and obstructing official persons in performing official duties. Mr Goxhaj will be detained in Albania, pending a decision by the Albanian authorities on the transfer of Mr Goxhaj to the detention facilities of the KSC in The Hague.

Thaҫi et al. case: decision on victims’ participation

On 21 July 2023, the Trial Panel in the Thaҫi et al. case granted a request of the Victims’ Counsel and allowed the surviving spouse of one of the victims, who has recently passed away, to resume her action as a victim participating in the proceedings. Therefore, the number of participating victims in this case is still 140.

Constitutional Court Panel assigned to deal with new Shala’s referral

Following the referral by the Defence of Pjetër Shala, on 10 July 2023, Judges Vidar Stensland, Roumen Nenkov and Romina Incutti have been assigned as members of the Constitutional Court panel to decide on this referral relating to alleged violations of the accused’s fundamental rights. Summer court recess until 11 August 2023

As announced in our Calendar, the summer court recess at the KSC begins on Monday, 24 July and ends on 11 August 2023. During this period, no hearings are held and some non-essential services are reduced to a minimum. However, the court remains fully functional during this period and work continues across all sections of the KSC. Filings are possible during the recess and, unless otherwise ordered by the judges, judicial deadlines continue running.
