Shala trial: The Panel decides on the conduct of the proceedings
In its decision on the conduct of the proceedings in the Shala trial, Trial Panel I, inter alia, allocated 53.5 hours to the SPO to present its case, during which the SPO intends to call 19 witnesses. The Defence will be given the same amount of time to cross-examine an SPO witness as effectively used by the SPO for its direct examination of that witness. The Victims’ Counsel shall be allocated 25 per cent of the time effectively used by the SPO. Finally, the Panel set 19 May and 16 June as additional hearing dates and cancelled 30 June as a hearing day. More details in the actual order.

Another KSC weekly press briefing will take place on Thursday, 23 February at 14:30. During this briefing, the KSC Spokespersons will provide a short update on the latest developments in the judicial proceedings before the KSC, as well as on other public activities of the Court. Shala trial: Opening statements concluded/trial resumes on 27 March
Shala Defence completed its opening statement, followed by an unsworn statement of the accused, pursuant to Rule 142(1) of the Rules. The hearing is adjourned for today and the trial will resume on 27 March at 09:30 with the commencement of the evidence presentation.

Thaci et al. case: 84 new victims admitted to the proceedings
Trial Panel II issued a fifth decision on victims' participation in the Thaci et al. case. Eighty four new applicants were admitted to the proceedings as participating victims. They will be included in the existing group of victims (Group 1 with 53 participating victims previously admitted) and shall be represented by the same Victims' Counsel. This brings the total number of participating victims in this case to 137. Eighty six applications were rejected in the latest decision. More details here.

The Victims’ counsel completed his opening statement in the trial against Shala. The hearing is adjourned for today and the trial will resume tomorrow (22 February) at 09:30, with the Defence’s opening statement.
